Ardencaple BC Vs St. Patrick’s – 2004
Ardencaple BC 0 – 10 St. Patrick’s
We set off to Helensburgh late in the morning, with the sun piercing through intrepid rain drops. This time however, the sun won the battle and gloriously bathed the landscape as we travelled to our destination. Once again Scotland unveiled itself in all its beauty along the way. From afar hill tops powdered with snow glistened. Along the windy road intricate architectural structures were works of art testament to ancient craft. Not even the sight of a coastal line down below could disturb from the tranquillity as we passed by.
We pulled up at the venue, a very modern establishment in sharp contrast. Regardless, we had a game to play. We confidently pushed on from kick off forcing the home team to defend. The opposition keeper was called into action time and time again but acquitted himself very well. His brave intervention in the sixth minute to deny Ricky cost him a free kick just outside the box. Dylan took it and he crashed his shot unto the bar. But a minute later Mairtin ploughed through the Caple’s defence but his strike was repelled by the keeper’s legs. Dom collects the loose ball and strikes. The goalie parries again but this time Ricky was about to mop up, rolling the ball into the net to finally break the deadlock. A minute later Ricky turned provider finding Reilly at the second post and Reilly increased our lead from a tight angle. Caple recovered and for a while held their own. We maintained our dominance and promptly cut off any foray into our half. Dylan lifts the ball over to Mairtin in the opposition box. Mairtin brings the ball down and placed hi shot into the far corner. Soon after Dom moves the ball on to Gallagher who crosses for Ricky to double his tally as we headed to the break.
At the restart we carved out great chances to add to our goal-average. Ben was unfortunate on a couple of occasions. Eight minutes into the second half Euan, who came on at the break, touched the ball on the turn. Ricky lays the ball back to Euan who goes on to beat the oncoming keeper. The next goal was a reward for sheer perseverance. Euan brings the ball down and moves it on to Mairtin who pushes through and finds Gallagher on the right. As the ball rolls away to the byline Gallagher chased on to retrieve the ball. The keeper then rushed to avert the danger. Gallagher squeezed the ball past the keeper and into the net. As for Ben, he finally got his goal on the turn from a Dom’s header. Caple will concede another few goals before the final whistle. Some great interplay in midfield culminated in a fantastic goal. Mairtin drove the ball on from midfield and then moves it on to Tyler on the left wing who struck the ball first time with the inside of the right foot sending it into the far corner for a brilliant goal. Tyler turned provider feeding Jamie who had come back on for Ben on the left. His shot on goal slipped through the keeper’s hands into the net. Another player that was thrown back into action in a different position was Beau. Spearheading our front line, he receives the ball from Mairtin, turns and accelerate towards goal to score.
Another three points on the board and confidence growing. Yet, the hard work at training continues. Well done for today!
