2006 – Top Division League Champions
St. Patrick’s 13 – O Whitecraigs AFC
In their first season at elevens St. Patrick’s 2006 did not mess about. They took the league by storm with a 100% win record. In fact, the stats confirm the team’s overwhelming dominance with only 6 goals conceded and 135 for. On reflection, it was a procession right through to today’s game against Whitecraigs when the title was wrapped up at home with another clean sheet.
Whitecraigs did certainly not travel to make up the numbers. Their bravery was on full display as they tried their best to keep the ….. lemonade on ice as long as possible. The local support had no doubt what awaited Whitecraigs. They had travelled in numbers to cheer on the team and of course witness a demolition job that will safely deliver the title to a most deserving group of boys, theirs. By half time they were in dreamland. Their boys had done them proud once again. They had nullified the opposition and had gone to the break with a comfortable 5 goal lead.
At the restart our boys went about their job like professionals, ruthlessly capitalising on every opportunity that came their way. Whitecraigs could do nothing to stem the tide. With the sun shining glorious in the blue skies, the party mood had descended at Bothwellhaugh. The conversations among the local support were much more relaxed as everyone just enjoyed watching their boys perform without any pressure. As for the coaching staff, today’s game was simply the crowning of all the hard work they have been putting in all season, the day when the gains are worth all the pains. On the pitch Whitecraigs punishment went on goal after goal until the final whistle finally came to put an end their misery and proclaim our boys League Champions.
Congratulations to all the boys on delivering the league title. All the hard work and effort is paying off and you have been a joy to watch this season. A fantastic first season at elevens with still the final of the Regional Cup and the quarters of the League Cup to go. Well done, we are all very proud of you!!!!
